Pleasantville police report new squad car, replace expired trauma kits and trial FirstNet devices

Police Chief Adam Choat reported operational changes and equipment upgrades to the Pleasantville City Council on July 21. Chief Choat said the department’s new squad car has arrived and is awaiting graphics before entering service. After inspecting medical supply bags, "the department found that most supplies had expired, so new IFAK trauma medical bags were ordered and placed in all three vehicles," he said. Choat also said the department experienced intermittent data communication on patrol laptops and that FirstNet is sending three cellular devices to trial in the in-car laptops; he noted FirstNet "prioritizes public safety and costs about the same as the city currently pays Verizon."
Choat told the council he will assign vehicles to individual officers to improve accountability for cleanliness and maintenance reporting, and that nuisance enforcement is underway. He also reported that a license-plate-reader (LPR) camera test and evaluation were completed and the camera has been removed for return to the vendor. The council took no formal action on the report.
