School division notifies board of $476,117 carryforward from FY25 to FY26

Amelia County Public Schools informed the Board of Supervisors on March 1 that the school board approved carrying forward $476,117 in unexpended FY25 state funds into FY26. The presentation included the division’s February ADM (1,485.2) and K–12 enrollment counts and a Weldon Cooper Center projection for 2026–2030 that staff provided to the supervisors.
School staff said the methodology used to calculate the carryforward was reviewed and approved by county finance staff and ensures required local effort and match requirements are met; no additional local match is required for the carryforward. The corresponding action was already recorded by the board in an August resolution and the schools brought the item forward for informational purposes after the audit was completed.
The superintendent’s office also highlighted transportation needs, saying the fleet summary supports purchasing two to three buses per year to meet a 15‑year replacement guideline and avoid a future 'cliff' in bus availability.
