Student and administrators highlight community service as board hears insurance-rate concerns

During public comment and staff reports at the Escondido Union School District board meeting, a student and association representatives highlighted community engagement while trustees discussed rising insurance costs affecting district employees.
"Giving back is the missing element in many schools and reminds us to be an active member of the community and improve the lives of those around us," student Taylee Lee said, describing CAMS’ community service activities such as lunch-kit drives and visits to the police and fire departments.
A representative of the Escondido Elementary Administrators Association thanked the board, praised summer professional development and recognized staff leaders for organizing PD. Board members then discussed an insurance committee update that indicated employee insurance rates could rise roughly 10–12 percent; trustees noted the effect this could have on classified staff who earn relatively low hourly wages.
Board members said they appreciated the district’s volunteer and PTA engagement and recognized recent donations (the American Heart Association donation to Reedy Creek was noted) and personnel promotions. The board closed by reminding the public of the next meeting on September 18.
