Mia Funk, the district's career and technical education presenter, briefed the board on CTE Month programming and enrollment trends, saying 40.5% of Escondido students enrolled in at least one CTE course last school year, a 3.4% increase from the prior year.
Funk said pathway completion rose to 29% (up 1.4%) and the district currently offers 29 high-quality CTE pathways across five campuses, spanning construction, automotive, manufacturing, agriculture, business, hospitality and arts and media. She said more than 500 students earned articulated college credit through CTE courses last year and described partnerships with Palomar College and the Western Carpenters union for apprenticeship alignment.
Trustees asked specifically about health-science programs and whether the district planned to add a medical/health pathway; Funk said the district is applying for grants and working with regional partners and community colleges to pilot health, teacher-education and fire-technology pathways over the next 18 months. She described employer advisory participation (about 140 employers engaged in fall industry meetings) and said the district will revamp the online sign-up for industry advisors.
Trustees and student board members applauded student participants from FFA and DECA who spoke about internships, public-speaking practice and the value of hands-on career experience. No formal board action was taken; trustees requested continued updates on grant applications and pathway pilot timelines.
