The City Council approved seasonal staffing and event logistics for Lake Charlotte and the Latin Festival. On a motion by Council member Gripne seconded by Council member Krueger, the council approved paying returning beach supervisors Christie Ruda and Myra Buhl $15.84 per hour and authorized hiring new beach supervisors at $15.00 per hour with an open recruitment to advertise the position. Council discussed that supervisors will maintain a safe and friendly environment at Lake Charlotte, contact the Police Department for issues, and may sell concessions and rent recreational equipment; the tourism committee will manage stocking the concession stand and the seasonal food stand license fee is $450.
Separately, Council member Gabrier Perez reported plans for a Latin Festival on July 26 and requested a street closure; Mayor Jim Kreemer moved to close Central Avenue from 1st Street North to 2nd Street North on July 26 from 1–11 p.m. The motion was seconded by Council member Gripne and approved unanimously. Perez noted donations are being handled through the Chamber of Commerce and the event will include bounce houses and Latin food vendors.
