Dian Kruse, Board Chair of the Historical Society, told the Vernon County Finance Committee on Oct. 14 that she had heard county funding for the Society might be reduced and asked the committee to reconsider that cut. "They try their best to be good stewards of the funds given, mostly operating from fundraising and volunteers," Kruse said, describing museum exhibits, tours, cemetery walks and a genealogy research service that she said serve multiple local groups.
Lonnie Muller also addressed the committee in support of maintaining or increasing county support for the Historical Society. Muller stated he was "opposed to the reduction in funding" and said he supports increasing the county contribution. Committee members did not take formal action on the request during the meeting; the remarks were recorded during the public comment portion of the agenda.
