Corporal Zach Hauser, president of the Ontario Police Officers Association, told the council the OPOD participated in a charity baseball game on March 30 organized by Seeds of Hope for Veterans and presented the council with jerseys and caps worn during the event. "That game was organized by Seeds of Hope for Veterans," Hauser said, thanking participants and recognizing the department's volunteers.
Mike Rogel, the organization chair, described how the inaugural event drew nearly 200 people, provided food and raised close to $5,000 to fund supplies for veterans and said Seeds of Hope hopes to expand programming into Ontario as they pursue nonprofit status. The council accepted the gift and the presentation served as a public recognition of police-community partnerships.
