Public Works project timeline updates: guardrail project delayed; Country Club Road treatment planned

Whitman County Engineer Dean Cornelison told commissioners the Countywide Guardrails and Guideposts Project did not receive approval, delaying any Notice to Call for Bids until an unknown later date. Operations Manager Brian Wilson provided project-level updates, saying Country Club Road will be treated with Perma-Zyme next week and that residents and businesses have been notified; the speed limit on the road will be reduced to 25 mph for the treatment window.
Wilson also said the Hume Road project timeline is being established with the contractor and that the Planning Commission is nearing adoption of a Critical Areas Ordinance, which the board will receive in June with a hearing scheduled for June 29, 2026. Commissioners approved the Public Works organizational chart during the meeting and authorized an Architectural/Engineering consulting contract with Design West pending legal review.
