The Vernon County Planning Commission discussed model farmland-preservation (FLP) ordinances and how such rules might affect housing in rural areas.
Commissioners questioned where the county should encourage housing and expressed concern that preservation rules could unintentionally limit housing opportunities. Jack Zabrowski recommended reviewing two model ordinances and said, "Zabrowski recommended reviewing the two models to see how Vernon County would want to be structured." He also advised completing the comprehensive plan first and including a recommendation for FLP in that plan rather than adopting a standalone ordinance immediately.
