Planning commission adopts updated land use map with about 4,573 acres of planned growth, adds area near Viola

On Nov. 20, 2024 the Vernon County Planning Commission voted to accept and replace the county Land Use Map with a planned-growth area totaling approximately 4,573 acres and to add additional planned growth around the village of Viola.
Jack Zabrowski presented the planned-growth area maps. Supervisor Nathaniel Slack moved to adopt the updated Land Use Map, and Supervisor Sandy Schweiger seconded the motion. The commission recorded a voice vote: most commissioners voted aye, one voted nay, and one member was absent; the motion carried.
The change is recorded in the commission's minutes as an update to the county's planned-growth chart; members asked staff to ensure the growth totals compare with the projection chart and to reflect the added growth around Viola in map products. The commission said it will review related Comprehensive Plan updates at the next meeting.
