Planning Board agrees to streamline town solid-waste ordinance language and forwards edits

Members of the Planning Board reviewed proposed edits to the town’s solid-waste management ordinance and agreed to simplify section 9 to avoid unintended restrictions on residents hauling their own waste. During discussion the Chair suggested removing the first paragraph that could be misread as broadly prohibiting collection and transportation of waste without authorization.
"So let's just eliminate the 1st paragraph," the Chair said, and members discussed reorganizing the section so it would begin with provisions for all residents, then address nonresident taxpayers and commercial haulers. The group agreed the town manager signs commercial-hauler licenses and that the revised ordinance would proceed to the town manager and Select Board and then to town meeting for final adoption. The board voted unanimously to forward the cleaned-up draft.
