Union City accepts resignation, approves background checks and hires for part-time police positions

Council accepted a resignation letter from part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024. Chief Pernice presented the certified civil service list (two candidates) and requested permission to conduct background checks and to hire two part-time officers. The council approved background checks and authorized the chief to proceed with hiring.
The council held an executive session on personnel and contracts and afterward approved a police contract for Zackery Shelly by motion of Councilor Steadman, seconded by Councilor Kerns. Council recorded the motions and approvals in the minutes.
