Committee reallocates $85,000 to position Vernon Acres generator project for FEMA match

Committee members debated alternatives, including connecting to the sheriff's generator (estimated to be costly because of long 1,600‑amp line runs) and a plan B to install a transfer switch to permit a mobile generator temporarily if FEMA funding does not come through. The committee voted to reallocate the existing $85,000 allocation (originally for Vernon Manor) to Vernon Acres so staff could sign agreements quickly should FEMA award the grant.
"We're proposing if the committee would approve it, using that $85,000 that was allocated for a generator in Manor, just using that for the generator at Acres," Amy Oliver said, describing the funding strategy and timeline. Staff indicated the state expects a decision in about three weeks but made no guarantee.
