Union City Council approves ARPA stormwater payment, greenlights grants and personnel moves

The Union City Borough Council convened Oct. 7 at the First Global Methodist Church and dealt with several administrative and capital matters, including ARPA spending, grant awards and personnel actions. Councilor Cross called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.; councilors Cross, Joyce, Osborn, Steadman, Kerns and Uber were present.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported receipt of $48,955.80 in Municipal Pension State Aid and detailed three capital grants — a $75,000 ECGRA Anchor Building Grant, a $35,000 Helping Today Grant and $154,000 from the Community Project Fund through Rep. Mike Kelly — totaling $264,000 for first-floor improvements to the City Building. The council approved designating $39,060.20 in ARPA funds to cover stormwater repairs in Municipal Lot #1 and Hogan’s Alley, and authorized motions to accept a police resignation, pursue background checks and proceed with a retroactive $5,000 ATV purchase to aid winter and parks work.
