County approves intermunicipal transit agreement to allow transfers with Schuyler County

The Tompkins County Legislature approved an intermunicipal agreement with Schuyler County to allow limited cross-county transit transfers, expanding riders' options between the two counties.
Frank Goldo of the Department of Planning and Sustainability described the arrangement as allowing passengers to board in one county and transfer in the other without paying twice. The initial service will run five days per week and include a Green Street stop coordination request by Schuyler County. "This represents an agreement between Tompkins County and Schuyler County that would effectively allow people to get on a bus in Schuyler County and come to Tompkins County," Goldo said.
Legislators asked about ridership projections and start timing; officials said they had not produced ridership forecasts but would announce an official start date once both counties sign the agreement. The legislature approved the authorization unanimously in chamber voice/hand vote.
Next step: County staff will finalize and sign the agreement and notify clerks and legislators about the official start date and publicity plans.
