Tompkins County formally proclaimed May 2026 as Older Americans Month and county staff and contracted partners used the occasion to describe ongoing senior services. Jill Seeley, registered dietitian for FoodNet Meals on Wheels, said the program delivered 116,000 meals in 2025 to 633 people and that each delivered meal is assessed to provide about one-third of an older adult’s daily needs, typically at least 650 calories and under 800 mg of sodium. She also described safety checks and home visits FoodNet performs to identify unmet needs.
Liza Burger, executive director of Lifelong, described nearly 1,000 current members at the community center, an 11% membership growth over the past year, and a menu of social, wellness and learning programs that support aging in place. Both speakers thanked legislators for supportive funding and encouraged continued partnerships to ensure nutrition, social connection and case management services remain available to older residents.
