The Escondido Union High School District Board on May 13 approved several personnel actions in open session and reported additional actions after closed session.
The board voted to accept the administrative hearing panel’s findings and approve the expulsion recommended in the confidential report (case numbers referenced in the packet) during an open‑session roll call vote. Later in the meeting, trustees voted to appoint Sharan Kripalani as assistant superintendent for human resources, effective July 1, and the board president read a summary of the contract: a three‑year term with an annual salary of $204,715 plus standard stipends and benefits.
On layoffs, the board adopted a certificated layoff resolution finalizing one teacher (a Spanish teacher) who waived a hearing; board members said the original certificated list had been reduced substantially through retirements, resignations and administrative adjustments. The board did not carry a motion to finalize an earlier set of classified reductions that had been recommended in March.
In a separate personnel item, trustees voted not to approve a requested sabbatical leave for a certificated employee amid concerns about optics while staff reductions were under consideration. After closed session the board returned to report approvals of physical‑education waivers and graduation waivers and a settlement in a special‑education case.
