Hennepin County honored as 2024 Mighty Mississippi cleanup champion

Commissioner Kevin Anderson told the board that Hennepin County participated in at least 64 Mighty Mississippi cleanup events this spring and was named the 2024 challenge champion.
"For Earth Day this year, Hennepin County accepted the challenge from Goodhue County to participate in the mighty Mississippi cleanup," Anderson said, noting countywide efforts to mobilize residents. Goodhue County Commissioner Linda Flanders and County Administrator Scott Arneson presented a certificate and additional recognition; Arneson read a certificate "signed Governor Tim Walz" acknowledging Hennepin County’s role in organizing the most well-attended cleanup events for the challenge.
Speakers emphasized the collaborative, volunteer-driven nature of the effort, the county's role in promoting participation between April 15 and May 15, and the environmental goal of improving river health.
