Board adopts amendment to sign controls, raising allowed building sign area

The Amelia County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on March 25 to amend the county sign controls, increasing the permitted sign area on building facades.
Under the adopted amendment, building signage is allowed at 1.5 square feet per linear foot of each building façade up to a maximum of 150 square feet; a minimum total sign area of 25 square feet is also permitted. Austin Mitchell told the Board the Planning Commission recommended the change unanimously after reviewing the code’s prior standard (one square foot per linear foot of property frontage). Supervisor Dexter Jones moved to adopt the amendment and the Board approved it without objection.
The ordinance change will be incorporated into the zoning code and administered by Community Development for sign permits and enforcement.
