Resident describes repeated intrusions, council says sheriff's office has jurisdiction

Brenda Young Edwards of 3155 Beaver Drive used her five minutes during public comment to describe prolonged, disturbing intrusions at her home and asked the council for help.

"It's rather disturbing... they made movies about it, but it's actually real. It sounds ludicrous, crazy, or you know? But the thing of it is is it's froggers," Edwards said, describing people she said were living in a house and taking belongings while residents remained in the home. She said cameras had been altered, the garage opener activated without cause, and that repeated reports to law enforcement had not resolved the situation.

Edwards said the intrusions had affected her and her husband's health: "Our lives are in jeopardy, and, you know, he's had a stroke. I've had a heart attack, you know, and it's you know, enough is enough," she told the council. She asked whether the city could arrange off-duty patrols or other measures to catch the perpetrators.

Mayor Rochelle Robinson thanked Edwards for bringing the issue to the council but said the incidents as described appear to fall outside the city police's statutory jurisdiction and would require involvement by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. "The police department does not go outside the city of Douglasville proper limits, so that would be a sheriff, Douglas County Sheriff Department to talk with as far as security is concerned," the mayor said, and added that legal counsel was an option if residents needed recourse.

The council did not take further action during the meeting; the mayor closed public comment after Edwards' five-minute statement.
