New general manager for Ontario's pro baseball team touts stadium as 'community asset', teases Sept. 18 name reveal

"What we're really building though, instead of a stadium, is a community asset," Benavides said. He described the facility as a gathering place that will create jobs and support small and large business growth. Benavides said the team is part of the Dodgers' organization and that "the name of the team and the mascot will be unveiled on September 18 at Town Square in downtown." He thanked council and staff for the welcome and said he and his family plan to be long‑term residents.
The remarks occurred during the public comment period; council acknowledged the introduction and invited the speaker to remain for the reception after the meeting.
