The Vernon County Finance Committee voted Oct. 10 to reduce the county's donations to two local organizations by 25%, a change the committee said would yield $13,750 in savings for the proposed 2026 budget.
Supervisor Will Beitlich moved to “reduce the donation to the Vernon Historical Society and the Vernon County Fair by 25%, totaling $13,750.00.” Supervisor Charlie Jacobson seconded the motion; a voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried, according to the minutes.
Committee members framed the move as a targeted, temporary cut to help close the remaining budget gap. The committee's actions are part of a broader package of measures discussed the same day that also included using excess sales tax revenue and shifting capital funding sources.
