Neighbors warn event center plan at Graber Olives could threaten historic Model Colony with noise and parking problems

"It is this future event center banquet hall that I'd like to speak about," said Kim Flores, who said she and other neighbors attended a meeting with the site's prospective owner and voiced concerns about noise, insufficient parking and the risk that a change in zoning would alter the character of the Model Colony historic neighborhood. Flores said the property is currently zoned low density, that the site has about 12 parking stalls, and that the proponent estimated the event space could accommodate 160 people while also seeking an ABC license.
Flores told the council that neighbors fear property values could fall and said five households had expressed plans to sell if the project proceeds as described. She urged the council to remain "vigilant in protecting our historic neighborhood with appropriate, well established safeguards that have made this neighborhood what it is today, a model colony." The remarks followed the council’s presentation of Model Colony historic‑preservation awards earlier in the meeting.
