The Piedmont board voted to appoint Elizabeth Ryan as interim principal of Wildwood Elementary following a comprehensive selection process that included 14 applications, multiple interview rounds and stakeholder panels.
Superintendent Dr. Hahn recommended Ryan and summarized the process that led to her selection: "Beth comes to Piedmont Unified School District as a retired principal with a wealth of experience in elementary education," he said, describing panel feedback and writing-task evaluation. Board President Veronica Anderson Thigpen moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded and carried 4–0.
Ryan, who was addressed at the podium as "Beth," said she was excited to return to school leadership and emphasized listening and collaboration: "I'm excited to listen. I'm excited to collaborate with everybody," she said. Several parents and staff offered brief remarks welcoming her and thanking her for accepting the interim role.
Why it matters: The appointment fills an immediate leadership need at Wildwood and is intended to provide stability while the district conducts a longer-term search for a permanent principal. The board recorded the formal motion and a unanimous vote in favor.
