Spokesperson Farhan said the personal envoy of the secretary-general for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, and partners in the Quintet (the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, the League of Arab States, and the European Union) continued consultations with Sudanese political stakeholders to advance confidence-building measures and prepare for visits and engagements.
Farhan said Haavisto has met with representatives of both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces and is continuing to press for concrete commitments to de-escalation, to engage with General Hemeti, and to facilitate practical measures including arrangements related to national examinations for students and humanitarian access.
The briefing called on all parties to protect civilians, facilitate safe and sustained humanitarian access, and restore telecommunications that aid protection and operations. No new pledges or timelines for increased donor contributions were announced at the briefing.
