Assembly honors volunteers and state agencies for Long Island brush‑fire response

Assemblymember Schiavone introduced a resolution recognizing the volunteer firefighters, the New York Air National Guard 106th Rescue Wing, and state agencies for their response to brush fires on Long Island on March 8. He told colleagues that more than 600 volunteer firefighters from over 80 departments responded and that the largest fire was contained by Sunday following coordinated efforts.
Schiavone also thanked Gov. Kathy Hochul for declaring a state of emergency and deploying three Apache helicopters and a C‑130 to hit hot spots early in the fires. The chamber adopted the resolution by voice vote.
