Residents raise concerns about maintenance building, street signs and services during public comment

Several residents used the public-comment periods at the June 11 Village of Mapleton meeting to press the board on projects and services.

Deb Herrold urged caution on the proposed maintenance building and asked whether the village had attempted to secure grant funding, saying "this is a lot of money." Mayor Hodges replied the village has not obtained grants for the project and that public-comment timing can be extended when needed. Alice asked that a termite inspection be completed before any floor installation on a new building; Trustee Rodney Smith said he planned to have inspections and the current building inspected first. Alice also noted that she had previously been told street signs were ordered four months earlier; Rodney said the signs are ordered and will be installed.

Other items raised included a question from Pat about changes to the liquor-license ordinance (Mayor Hodges said two licenses created last year are being eliminated), Mark Foust’s query about when dumpster days will resume (Rodney said scheduling is pending), and Bill Hodges reporting that he and "Jessy" installed sump pumps in two vaults at the water tower. The comments produced no immediate policy reversals or additional votes, but trustees recorded the concerns and indicated follow-up steps for inspections and administrative processing.
