Planning Commission recommends rezoning of 1121 E. Lester Street to R-L

The South Weber City Planning Commission on March 12 recommended the City Council approve a request to rezone roughly 1.45 acres at 1121 E. Lester Street from A (Agricultural) to R-L (Residential Low Moderate Density).
Community Development Manager Lance Evans told the commission the parcels previously hosted agriculture and a mechanic shop and that the General Plan shows the area as R-M (projected 1.86–2.8 dwelling units per gross acre). Evans said the requested R-L designation "will allow for a maximum of 1.45 building lots per acre," a density lower than the General Plan projection. Applicant John Pobanz described plans to keep the existing shop on the east parcel for storage of vintage vehicles and indoor basketball and to use the west parcel for a single home; Pobanz said he has "no intention of demolishing it or turning the existing acreage into multiple lots and homes."
After the public hearing produced no public comment, Commissioner Chris Roberts moved to recommend approval to the City Council; Commissioner McFadden seconded. Commissioners Dopp, McFadden and Roberts voted aye and the motion carried. The commission's action is a recommendation; the City Council will take the final vote on the zoning change at a future meeting.
