Sheriff Dennis Garcia presented the NMC priorities and asked the board to endorse them. "Garcia requested approval of Resolution No. 8 Supporting the NMC 2026 Legislative Priorities," the minutes record. Commissioners Brian Fortner and Dallas Dowell moved and seconded the motion; Chairwoman Jerri Rush, Fortner and Dowell voted "aye."
The resolution the board approved cites specific items the NMC is urging the legislature to act on, including full funding for a County Detention Facility Reimbursement Act (the NMC packet cites a five‑year average cost figure from the New Mexico Sentencing Commission) and continued funding for the Administrative Office of the Courts for courthouse construction and renovation.
