County Treasurer Katie Araas told the board on May 4 that the Sheridan County property tax refund program for the 2025 tax year is open and that applications are due "by Monday, June 1st, no exceptions." She said the program is income- and asset-based, refunds taxes paid in 2025, and can be filed online, in person or by mail; applicants must have paid the second half of property taxes before applying.
Araas said the treasurer’s office has assisted about 150 applicants so far and asked for patience as staff handle the higher volume alongside regular duties. The board did not change program rules at the staff meeting and any questions about eligibility will be handled by the treasurer’s office per normal procedures.
