Amelia County staff outline $1.19M in mandated cost pressures tied to schools, jails and social services

"The reality: significant growth is driven by state/federal requirements, not local choice," Pollitt said, and he provided line-item impacts: the local school system faces an estimated $495,000 increase, regional jails $183,000, and Social Services/CSA a net $488,700 as outside funding declines and demand rises.
Pollitt said those mandated pressures are a primary driver of the county’s expenditure growth that is outpacing revenue and noted the FY2027 framework seeks to manage those mandates while keeping the overall tax rate structure unchanged pending final revenue and General Assembly actions.
