Planning Commission recommends Peek property rezone to RL-M and R-M after public hearing

The Planning Commission voted 5–0 on Feb. 12 to recommend that the City Council approve a rezone for the Peek property at approximately 898 E. 7240 South from Agricultural (A) to RL-M and R-M. The item followed a public hearing in which residents raised safety and sight-distance concerns about the access point UDOT has designated.
Community Development Manager Lance Evans said the application is conceptual, with the acreage reduced by about 0.4 acres since filing, and that UDOT is requiring the proposed access location. "There are concerns about the access point on 925 East, but UDOT is requiring this access point," Evans said during the presentation. Several residents, including Natalie Browning and Barbara Shupe, asked the commission to consider alternate connections and expressed worry about limited sight lines, potential construction up a steep slope and work near wetlands. The commission closed the public hearing and forwarded a recommendation in favor of the rezone to the City Council for final action.
