Young members of Malcos meet Assembly to discuss housing, food insecurity and youth issues

Miss Gonzales Rojas introduced a group of young people from a progressive Jewish organization called Malcos who were visiting the Assembly as part of civic engagement efforts. She said the students are preparing for bat mitzvahs and are "invested in service and learning and taking on research and tackling the issues that we deal with every day in the New York State Assembly," including housing and food insecurity, tenant protection, school mental health, and libraries.
The presiding officer welcomed the students to the People’s House and thanked the adults who brought them, including Rabbi Rachel Goldenberg. The introduction was ceremonial and designed to recognize youth engagement; no formal agenda action or floor debate on the issues the students plan to address took place during the session.
