County reports sales-tax gains and outlines foreclosure auction of 34 parcels

Tompkins County Finance Director Daryl Tuttle presented March sales-tax figures and an update on the county's foreclosure process at the June 2 Legislature meeting.
Tuttle said March receipts for the county totaled about $8,000,200, an 11.72% increase compared with last March, and year-to-date collections were $20,926,000 (a 3.70% increase YTD). He noted some month-to-month variability and said he would investigate causes for a sharp municipal increase in one category. "For March, we have a total received taxes in the county of 8,000,200... which is actually an increase compared to last year of March of 11.72%," Tuttle said.
On foreclosure activity, Tuttle said the county will conduct an auction tour of 34 parcels next Monday: 15 residential, 18 vacant or commercial, and one parcel the county owns from a prior year; the original pool was larger (51 residential and 79 vacant/commercial at process start). He said he would provide updates on auction timing.
Members asked clarifying questions about reconciliation changes and reporting, and Tuttle said he would provide more detail in a future finance report.
