The Independent School District No. 199 school board voted May 7, 2026 to favor offering a one-year interim superintendent contract to current Superintendent Dave Bernhardson, the minutes record. Member Larsen moved to adopt Option 1 and Member Warrick seconded; the motion carried 6-0.
Board Chair Carrie Lounsberry opened the special meeting at 5:30 p.m. and Board Clerk Shana Dukes took roll. The board discussed two approaches for filling the superintendent role on an interim basis: negotiate a one-year internal contract with Superintendent Bernhardson or hire an outside consultant to run an external interim search. The minutes state the internal contract discussed would run July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, and that any settlement from negotiations will be presented at a future board meeting for official ratification.
The board approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session (motion by Member Klingner, second by Member Dukes; motion carried 6-0) and adjourned at 5:45 p.m. The district clerk certified the minutes. The board set a work session for May 11, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. and a regular meeting for May 18, 2026 at 5:30 p.m., both at the District Office.
