Board appoints Emily Kilroy as Albemarle County director of economic development

After convening in closed session, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors returned and certified the closed meeting. The board then voted to appoint Emily Kilroy as director of economic development effective immediately.
Kilroy, previously serving as interim director, thanked the board and staff. "Albemarle County is on the leading edge of some incredible opportunities that will anchor the regional economy for the next 20 years," she said, describing priorities such as biotechnology, intelligence and clean energy. The motion to appoint was moved and seconded and passed by roll-call vote with all supervisors recorded in favor.
Board members congratulated Kilroy and noted her experience working across departments. The county executive said staff will follow up on transition steps and onboarding.
