Albemarle County will issue a one‑time $1,000 payment to full‑time, benefits‑eligible county employees who are employed before Jan. 1, 2025; part‑time eligible staff will receive a prorated amount. Jessica Rice, director of human resources, said the funds were included in the FY‑25 adopted budget reserve and are intended to help offset rising costs such as health care and child care.
Rice told the Board that eligible staff would receive the payment through normal payroll processing (mid‑January) and that constitutional officers’ employees and temporary staff who aren’t benefit‑eligible were excluded under the ordinance. The Board opened the public hearing (no speakers) and adopted the ordinance on a roll‑call vote.
Supervisor questions focused on the population excluded from the payment and the timing of distribution; Rice said temporary, non‑benefit employees and certain constitutional officer employees are excluded and confirmed the payment would run through payroll in mid‑January.
