Odessa district moves to Qmlativ, tightens cell-phone, beverage and recess guidance

Superintendent Steve Fisk told the Odessa School District board on Aug. 28 that "the district has migrated to the new Qmlativ software," marking completion of a multi-department migration intended to consolidate student records and administrative workflows.
Fisk said the district limited student cell-phone use during class time for grades K–8 and that staff in-service addressed the change. He also said the district would post signs reminding the community that open beverage containers are not permitted on campus. Fisk reported attending training on recess rules and safety and said the district continues work to secure grants to replace football field lighting and pursue building modernization.
Principal Cori Kane told the board teachers are adjusting to the new system and described a separate rollout of MAP assessments and new intervention classes to identify and address academic gaps across grades K–12. Kane also noted the district still needs class advisors for the sophomore and junior classes and that ASB plans an all-school assembly Friday.
Board members did not vote on policy changes at the meeting; several items were described as administrative actions or items under development that will return to the board if formal adoption or expenditure authority is required.
