Makanda schedules road work for Sept. 5; culvert permit approved pending site meetings

Trustee Hilliard told the board that Illini is scheduled to work on village roads on Sept. 5, weather permitting, and that she has posted notices at the Post Office while Trustee Ross posted the notice on the Makanda Happenings website. Hilliard said she will meet with the contractor's foreman and inspect the roads when the work is completed.
On the culvert at issue, President Tina Shingleton said the board received an inquiry from Beck Simonds about a culvert installed on Hartline Road without a permit in March. The village removed that culvert while preparing the road for oil-and-chip on Sept. 5. Paperwork for a new culvert was submitted the same day; the permit application was approved contingent on Dan meeting with E.T. Simonds and Shannon of Apple Creek Golf Course to discuss installation of a metal culvert. Trustee Wolff volunteered to attend that meeting if needed.
Trustee Ross also shared photos of a culvert on Crackers Neck that is blocked by mud and recommended it be cleaned out.
