Board approves $99,752.32 payment to Duke’s Root Control to expand root-foaming program

The Ross Valley Sanitary District board on April 22 authorized the General Manager to execute payment to Duke’s Root Control for main line root foaming in the amount of $99,752.32. General Manager Steve Moore and Operations and Maintenance Manager Paul Bruemmer reviewed results of a pilot program and said the proposed program would double the amount of pipeline treated. The motion (M/s Boorstein/Sylla) passed unanimously.
Bruemmer emphasized that root foaming is less damaging to clay pipes than some mechanical cutting methods and allows the Repair Crew to focus on other system priorities. Board members voiced concerns about chemical use; staff responded that the product used is an herbicide (not a pesticide) and that CMSA monitoring was deemed reassuring.
