Board to follow MSHSL rule; staff to start Track Club for sixth-graders

The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle board voted unanimously to follow the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) rule that prevents sixth-graders from competing in MSHSL track and cross-country events.
Kelsey Paurus told the board that "Angela Bitz is starting a Track Club to give these kids an opportunity to still be involved," framing the club as a local alternative for sixth-graders who cannot compete in MSHSL-sanctioned meets. The motion to adopt the MSHSL policy for sixth-graders was moved by Zastrow and seconded by Zahnow and carried without opposition.
Board members and staff also heard that winter sports are finishing and spring sports will begin in two to three weeks, and the board discussed operational details but made no separate policy exceptions to MSHSL rules.
