The Carbondale Elementary School District No. 95 Board of Education held a public hearing Dec. 19 and approved a resolution to file the district’s 2024 tax levy seeking $17,047,526 for the 2024 tax year. Janiece Blake, chief school business official, told trustees the Consumer Price Index fell 3.4% year-over-year; the district proposed a 4.99% levy request but said it will be limited to the lesser of that request and the CPI. The district estimated an effective tax rate of about 4.237%, down from last year’s 4.528% extended rate.
Trustee Stacye Saunders moved and Trustee Aimee Wigfall seconded the resolution to file the levy under the 105% rule; the motion passed on roll call with yes votes from Catherine Field, Stacye Saunders, Renada Greer, Imani McHenry, Aimee Wigfall and Markida Roper, and with Trustee Corey Cawthon absent. The board adjourned the hearing at 7:07 PM after Blake’s presentation. The levy filing begins the official process for setting property taxes that fund district operations and debt service.
