During opening remarks the Assembly welcomed several visiting delegations to the chamber. Assemblymember Levenberg introduced youth advocates and chaperones from Start Empowerment and students from LaGuardia High School, NYU and Lehman High School who had spoken to legislators about climate change's mental-health impact on young people.
"They urged us to continue to be national leaders in caring for the environment and mental well-being of our residents," Assemblymember Levenberg said, thanking the students and asking members to extend the cordialities of the House. Assemblymember DeStefano introduced leaders of statewide volunteer fire organizations and described long-standing volunteer service across the state. The Speaker and members extended privileges of the floor to the visitors and thanked them for their advocacy and service.
