The board approved final layoff resolutions: the certificated reduction was presented as seven positions to be non-reemployed for 2026–27 after resignations and placements, and the classified list was revised to 21 positions after staff retained a food-services manager position necessary for preschool operations. Director Rubin said enrollment changes and resignations had allowed several rescissions, but the board must approve final notices by May 15 for the layoff process.
Public commenters pressed the board on equity and language-access impacts. Andrea Dealy, a district employee and CSEA chapter member, asked what data supported keeping five full-time elementary teaching positions given declining enrollment and noted an estimated fiscal-impact difference of $913,000 between earlier projections. Lee Cavalier raised concerns that a librarian named Danielle Smith appeared on a classified layoff notice despite the board president having singled out the employee at an earlier office-hours mention. Trustees directed staff to monitor library access and literacy supports and to bring back information on coverage and enrollment-based restoration options.
