Alyssa Staley, an English teacher at Carbondale Middle School, used the board's public-comment period to recognize students who participated in the Illinois Association of Teachers of English (IATE) writing and art competition. "Micah Wheetley received an honorable mention for his outstanding piece titled 'The Broken Vase,'" Staley said.
Staley noted that CMS was one of only two middle schools to submit entries and the only participating school south of Belleville, and she asked the board and community to celebrate the students' achievements. The board did not take formal action during public comment but recorded the recognition in the minutes.
