American Indian Parent Advisory Committee issues vote of concurrence for 2024–25, recommends expanded supports

Ethan Nierdales, coordinator of Indian Education, presented the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee's (APAC) vote of concurrence for the 2024–25 school year and urged continued expansion of culturally responsive supports across the district.
Nierdales told the board that Minnesota statute requires districts with certain American Indian student populations to establish APACs and that this year's APAC vote followed a Feb. 24 review of district data and progress on six program goals in the district's American Indian Education Aid Plan. The committee recommended expanding culturally responsive multi-tiered supports, instruction in Ojibwe and Dakota languages, stronger intervention models and mandatory cultural competency training, and asked for transparency in how funds derived from the Minnesota School Trust Lands Fund benefit American Indian students.
Board members thanked the APAC representatives and reiterated the district's commitment to ongoing work; the board noted the presentation and the committee's concurrence as part of its regular accountability process.
