Principal Diana, the Northview Middle School principal, told the ISD 279 school board that the school centers its work on a set of commitments intended to support the whole child and improve achievement.
"We are a school that serves 92% students of color," Principal Diana said, and she described a focus on culturally responsive professional development, positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and literacy-rich classrooms. She said the building enrolls about 517 students and highlighted reading growth among students who receive special education services and English language services.
Diana described classroom practices designed to increase engagement and early reading gains, including smaller-group instruction and a schoolwide effort to "see their story first." She also described family outreach and communications tools—monthly newsletters, translated talking points, and an online SMART Youth Center—that have generated hundreds of views and help families access school information.
Board members asked clarifying questions about signage, intentional messaging and how school displays connect to instructional priorities; Diana said the visual materials are deliberately aligned to commitments and to expanding students's aspirations. The presentation concluded with board appreciation for the school's focus on equity and student supports.
