Superintendent outlines classroom visits, four priority themes after 60 days

Superintendent Jason Sutter presented a 60-day listening-and-learning report that emphasized classroom observations and community meetings as the basis for next-year priorities. He told the board he had met district leaders and completed "over a 140 classroom visits" to capture what is working and where gaps remain.
Sutter said his observations produced four recurring themes: strong relationships between staff and students; wide instructional variability across classrooms; differences in student engagement that affect learning; and uneven structural coherence (routines, pacing and use of instructional minutes) that must exist before new curricular programs can be effective. He urged the board to identify a small set of priorities the district should implement rather than attempting to do everything in the LCAP.
