Board approves two-year nutrition staff contract raising hourly pay to $20 by year two

The Osseo Area Schools board unanimously approved on Dec. 17 a two-year agreement with the School Nutrition Association covering roughly 125 employees, including managers, assistant managers and nutrition assistants. Yvonne Schwartzland, executive director of human resources, summarized the contract: nutrition assistants would see pay increase to $19 per hour in year one and $20 in year two; the district collapsed the pay grid from five steps to three and added career increment pay differentials at 5, 10 and 20 year marks.
Schwartzland said the employer contributions for certain benefit plans would increase by 5% in year one and 3% in year two; she described the contract as consistent with the board's financial parameters for the 2024–26 negotiation cycle and said the total financial investment over the two-year contract is about $365,772. "The salary investment outlined above is consistent with the financial parameters established by the school board for the 2024 through 2026 contract negotiation cycle," Schwartzland said. The superintendent recommended approval; the board voted to approve the agreement 6–0.
Board members thanked nutrition staff for their work and noted the importance of school meals for many students.
