Board approves CSEA MOUs as district moves to cut $1 million in annual spending

District leaders told trustees on Aug. 28 that the Sulphur Springs Union School District must reduce expenditures by roughly $1 million annually. The Board approved three memoranda of understanding with CSEA Chapter #298 designed to reduce costs without displacing current employees: a reduction in hours for a vacant Instructional Media Center (IMC) position in Educational Services, a reduction in hours for a vacant secretary position in Personnel, and a change to the salary schedule that places the mechanic position into its own range (069/070). Each MOU passed by unanimous voice vote (5-0).
Assistant Superintendent Jay Greenlinger framed the MOUs as measures to achieve necessary savings while avoiding layoffs by using vacancies and reclassification. The board thanked CSEA for its collaboration during the negotiations. The MOUs were approved during the action calendar and will be implemented through Personnel and Business Services per the memoranda.
